We Strive for the Development of Public Interests

Which includes but not limited to the following subjects:

AMAR aims to protect the freedom of expression of artists

Artist protection can help to encourage creativity and promote culture in our society. Additionally, artistic expression could be a way of stating opinions and remarks, becoming an important and a more notable voice of the public. The expression of beliefs, thoughts, and ideas without interference is one of the keys to achieve a healthy and functioning democracy.

AMAR aims to aid those in need of legal help if their rights are violated. Legal advocacy for this cause such as strategic litigation and policy advocacy will aid AMAR in promoting the protection of the rights of artists.

AMAR aims to improve the Indonesian education system and assist in cases related to the right to education.

The use of legal advocacy approaches such as strategic litigation and policy advocacy will aid in promoting the improvement of the Indonesian education system. AMAR will also conduct research and public campaigns to help support the cause. AMAR plans on recruiting and inaugurating new staff and volunteers to maintain the sustainability and expansion of advocacy for the right to education.

AMAR is advocating for three things. Firstly, the increase of access to the right to education. This can be done by promoting affordable or free education. Secondly, the improvement of the quality of education through continuous support, encouragement of alternative education systems, and the prevention of policies that worsen the education system. Thirdly, the strive for a more democratic education system, especially the reinforcement of academic freedom in educational institutions.

AMAR advocates for accessible healthcare

The right to health is a basic human right. Unfortunately, issues such as high population, uneven development, lack of facilities, and corruption within the health sector make it difficult for this right to be fulfilled as expected. The lack of transparency in the management of health insurance system creates a lack of guarantee towards the citizens’ right to health. Additionally, budgets set for health are often in deficit and this sector requires significant funding.

AMAR plans on conducting various projects such as research policy advocacy campaigns and strategic litigation steps. This will help promote the fulfillment of the right to health in accordance with the human rights standards set by the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights. In addition, AMAR will also organize recruitments and inaugurations for new volunteers to advocate for this cause.

AMAR strives for a change and will contribute towards the anti-corruption movement

Corruption is a major problem in Indonesia, especially in the justice system. Due to the position that they have in law enforcement, advocates have a strategic role in overcoming corruption. In addition to their knowledge of the law, they are also in a position of immunity – a privilege that many professions do not provide. Despite this, advocates often end up getting involved in corruption cases; they may also become a barrier in the effort to settle such cases. Some advocates does admit that they conform to the corrupt system and practices simply because they are unable to do much in dealing with corrupt law enforcement officials. Nonetheless, there is still a small group of advocates who strives to stay consistent with the principles of anti-corruption and fully support the anti-corruption movement.

AMAR want to help make a change and contribute towards the anti-corruption movement. In order to do this, AMAR has many goals. This includes achieving reformation within the legal system to make it difficult for legal practitioners to be involved in corruption, as well as endorsing the role of advocates in the movement. We strive for the creation of support groups for anti-corruption activists or institutions and advocates who are forced into facing the corrupt system and practices. AMAR shall contribute to this cause by conducting research regarding strategies on the reformation of the justice system; educating legal scholars and advocates who believe in the movement; and supporting the fight of anti-corruption activists, advocates, government officials, and members of the public against corruption within Indonesia. Additionally, AMAR will also exercise strategic litigation and advocate for policies that endorse a justice system that is not susceptible to corruption.

AMAR is committed to promote the importance of legal protection for animals

Animal welfare is often overlooked due to the belief that legal protection for animals has no benefit for humans. While this common misconception prevails, animal welfare has environmental, health, and social benefits for society. Controlling overpopulation, stopping irresponsible animal trades, and regulating pet ownership can aid in preventing invasive species from disrupting the indigenous ecosystems. Maintaining the health of wild and domesticated animals may also help us in dealing with zoonotic diseasesdiseases that are transmitted from animals to humans.

AMAR had previously been involved in a number of activities related to animal rights. During the Indonesia International Pet Expo 2019, AMAR had spread awareness regarding laws on animal welfare in Indonesia, one of the ways of fulfilling our social responsibility towards the public. With legal effort, we aim to fight against animal cruelty and protect the rights of animals in Indonesia.
